step 1:

When installing drywall, allow a 1/8" gap between the drywall and the adjacent interior surface to accommodate the legs of the L-bead for a straight, flat application. Avoid using the tapered edges of drywall panels in this application. Make sure the drywall surface is clean and smooth. Measure and cut L-Beads to length, minus ½" for vertical applications. Dry fit Rip Bead L-Beads to ensure optimum fit.

Step 2:

For best results, spray adhesive on drywall surface and flange of L-bead and position Rip Bead L-bead in place. Once in place, apply pressure with a tape knife handle, then staple the corner beads every 6" - 8" with ½" staples to keep the L-beads tight to the drywall surface.

Step 3:

Using a 6-inch tape knife, apply a first coat of joint compound to the surface of the Vinyl Tear Away L Strip Corner Bead. Using a light or setting compound for this step will reduce shrinkage and speed up drying time. Let it dry completely for a few hours or overnight.

Step 4:

Using an 8-inch tape knife, apply a final coat of joint compound. Feather compound beyond the previous coat. Using an all-purpose compound or topping compound will make the finish more durable. Let it dry completely for a few hours or overnight.

Step 5:

Gently remove the Rip Bead Removable Legs after the last coat of compound is completely dry and before sanding.

Step 6:

Finish lightly with sandpaper.
