Irregular cracks, often referred to as map cracking or crazing, form a messy, web-like pattern across the wall surface. Unlike structural cracks that follow set paths, these usually come down to material problems: incorrect mix ratios, excessive shrinkage during curing, or application over incompatible substrates.

A proper repair means removing the damaged render, fixing the underlying issue, and reapplying the surface with reliable reinforcement. Embedding mesh into the new render layer spreads shrinkage stresses evenly, so the random cracking pattern does not return.

Hollowing happens when render loses its bond with the substrate, creating a hidden void that sounds hollow when tapped. This usually develops from poor surface preparation, weak initial bonding, dust left on the wall, or movement differences between the render and the base structure.

If left alone, hollow areas will eventually crack and fall off. Effective repair means cutting out the hollow section down to solid substrate, properly priming the surface, and reinstalling the reinforcement with enough overlap to restore full continuity across the repaired area.

Delamination is when layers within the render system separate from each other - for example, between the base coat and the finish coat - rather than pulling away from the wall itself. This typically happens when new coats are applied too early, moisture gets trapped inside, or adjacent materials are chemically incompatible.

To fix it, the delaminated layers must be removed, the substrate allowed to dry fully, and the system rebuilt with proper layer bonding. Mesh acts as the unifying component that mechanically locks layers together, stopping future separation.
